Mike Wynn (PNMSP) took the early lead in the 2010 Great Sacandaga Mini Marathon and never looked back. Mike Wynn skied solo for most of the race finishing in a time of 1:23:39. In second place was Wayne Clark (TSX) in 1:28:12. Bob Underwood (HURT) rounded out the podium with a time of 1:29:54

In the Women’s race, Heidi Underwood (HURT) held off Kathy Schwenk (Team Knewhcs) to win her second Mini Marathon. Underwood finished in a time of 1:40:45, while Schwenck came in at 1:42:10. In third place was Janet Findley (PNMSP) in 2:03:42.
In the Scholastic Boys 15 km, Aaron Newell (Saratoga Biathlon) followed by Evan Grenberg (NYSEF), and Erik Schreiner (Saratoga Biathlon). Tyra Wynn (Saratoga Biathlon) won the Scholastic Girls race with Megan McGowan in second.

Conditions should be excellent for the Shenendahowa classic and the Great Sacandaga Mini Marathon this weekend.
The weekend starts with the Shenendahowa Classic, a race organized by the Shenendahowa Nordic Club. Open and masters ski 10 k, juniors ski 5 km. Registration is available at skireg.com through 10:00 PM tonight.

Sunday features the Great Sacandaga Mini Marathon, a 30 km skate race. Registration is available at skireg.com through 4:00 PM on Friday. Day of race registration will also be available at a slightly higher fee. This year we are also giving competitors the option of competing in a half distance race (the micro marathon?) Anyone may sign up for the 15 km race, however only juniors will be eligible for awards.

The course is very similar to the one that will be used at the 2010 NYSSRA Champs at the end of February. Expect to see some heavy hitters getting a sneak peak of the course. Mike Wynn is the four time defending champion (he was last beaten in 2004 by Curt Schreiner), will this be the year that someonelse claims the crown?
Today is the last day to register for the 2010 NYSSRA Championships/ NY Biathlon Championships at the reduced rate. Starting tomorrow the fee will increase by $5.

For the second year in a row the Saratoga Biathlon Club was selected to host the NYSSRA XC Championships and NY Biathlon Championships. This years event will feature races in cross country, biathlon, and ski-o, and will take place during the last weekend of February.

The club will be holding two summer biathlon races this weekend. On Saturday we will hold a sprint race, all classes will again run the 4.2 km race. On Sunday we will hold a 2 x 4.2 km relay race. If you don’t have a partner for the relay, don’t worry we’ll find someone for you the day of the race.

And for those who aren’t satisfied with only one race on Sunday, we will hold the 1 km biathlon challenge after the race. This one will be fast, run 300 m shoot 5 prone shots, run 300 m shoot 5 standing shots, run 300 m to the finish. For each miss you will be assesed a 10 s penalty.
Don’t forget to bring your bathing suits, the water is great right now. Look for a post on the Run-Pedal-Tube triathlon held on Hadley this past Saturday coming later today.
