{"id":292,"date":"2010-02-25T20:06:53","date_gmt":"2010-02-26T00:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saratogabiathlon.com\/blog\/?p=292"},"modified":"2010-02-25T20:08:51","modified_gmt":"2010-02-26T00:08:51","slug":"xc-race-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saratogabiathlon.com\/blog\/2010\/02\/xc-race-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"XC Race Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Handicapping the favorites in the NYSSRA Champs&#8230; by Olympic Analyst: Chad Salmonella<\/p>\n<p>The upcoming NYSSRA Championships promises to be a\u00a0grueling\u00a0contest. \u00a0Once again, the favorite in this race is Mother Nature. \u00a0She has rallied yet again to make the NYSSRA Champions Cup XC ski race a real challenge. \u00a0Two years ago she threw freezing rain and sleet at the racers. \u00a0Last season she doused them in a drenching downpour. \u00a0This year she has outdone herself by piling up tons and tons of heavy, wet, slushy, soft snow. \u00a0It should be a torturous course, and only a few of the NYSSRA elite will be able to rise to the occasion. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a look at who should get on the podium in New York&#8217;s true championship race:<\/p>\n<p>Gold<strong>: Paul Allison.<\/strong>.. (<em>Independent<\/em>) \u00a0He has won the championship before and has been runner up the last two seasons. \u00a0He is the man to beat!<\/p>\n<p>Silver: \u00a0<strong>Jason Hettenbaugh.<\/strong>.. (<em>Rochester Nordic Racing<\/em>) \u00a0Fourth in the LP Loppet shows he has the stamina to fight in the tough conditions. \u00a0If he has enough left after the morning biathlon, he will challenge Allison.<\/p>\n<p>Bronze: \u00a0<strong>Marty Maynard.<\/strong>..
